Mohammed Sorwar Ahad is a UK-based entrepreneur and community figure with roots in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He began his education in Sylhet, completing his primary and secondary studies locally before continuing to Government College, Sylhet, and later MC College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He also pursued Economics Honours at Jagannath University in Dhaka before relocating to the United Kingdom.
From an early stage, he developed a strong interest in media and community engagement. In Bangladesh, he contributed to local newspapers, published independent magazines, and held key leadership roles, including General Secretary of Jalalabad Jubo Forum and Secretary General of Radio Paiching (Beijing) in Bangladesh. He also collaborated with the Chinese Embassy on cultural and media initiatives during the 1980s.
Mr Ahad moved to the UK in 1991 to pursue higher education. While financial challenges prevented him from completing his studies, he quickly established himself professionally. He initially worked in the clothing industry, supporting both a company and his family’s manufacturing business in London. He later diversified into vegetable wholesale and the travel sector.
In 2003, he entered the hospitality industry, where he built a successful career. He owned and operated a restaurant in Whitstable, Kent, for many years before transferring ownership in 2019. He also founded a takeaway business in Herne Bay, further strengthening his presence in the catering sector.
Alongside his business achievements, Mr Ahad is deeply committed to community and charitable work. He is a founding member of the Shofor Ali Sarpanch and Tuta Miah Foundation and actively supports fundraising and community initiatives across the UK. He is also a permanent member of the Bangladesh Centre in the UK.
His contributions have been widely recognised, including his appointment as an RFC Ambassador for Channel S in 2025. He has also supported international charitable causes, including fundraising for Uppsala Masjid in Sweden.
Through his journey, Mohammed Sorwar Ahad has demonstrated resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and a lasting commitment to community service, earning respect within the British Bangladeshi community.
